About SEAMAC

Welcome to SEAMAC, the Strengthening the Excellence of Additive Manufacturing Capabilities project. SEAMAC is an ambitious Horizon Europe initiative aimed at advancing the field of additive manufacturing (AM), particularly focusing on innovative techniques and materials to enhance the precision, efficiency, and sustainability of manufacturing processes.

Project Objectives: SEAMAC’s primary goal is to develop cutting-edge additive manufacturing technologies, with a special focus on powder laser metal deposition (LMD) and plasma electrolytic polishing (PeP). These advancements are intended to significantly reduce material waste and energy consumption, contributing to the broader objectives of the European Green Deal and the digital transformation of the manufacturing sector.

Research and Innovation: Our research is centered on creating Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs), which offer improved performance and material efficiency. By integrating novel methodologies and leveraging the expertise of our consortium partners, SEAMAC aims to push the boundaries of what is possible in AM.

Consortium Partners: SEAMAC brings together a diverse team of experts from leading institutions:

  • University of Ljubljana (UL)
  • Technion – Israel Institute of Technology
  • TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF)
  • Numerous industry partners across Europe

Key Activities:

  • Workshops and Conferences: We host industry-oriented workshops and participate in international conferences to foster academia-industry dialogue and disseminate our findings.
  • Educational Initiatives: SEAMAC is dedicated to promoting STEM education and addressing gender disparities in engineering through educational videos and public presentations.
  • Digital Engagement: Our online presence includes an active website and social media channels where we share updates, “Science Bits,” and other engaging content to reach a global audience.

Impact and Sustainability: SEAMAC is not just about technological advancement; it’s about creating sustainable and impactful change. We aim to bridge the gap between research and real-world application, ensuring that our innovations are accessible and beneficial to a wide range of stakeholders including researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and the general public.

Broader Impact Initiatives: At SEAMAC, we recognize that the impact of our work extends beyond technical achievements. Our broader impact initiatives are equally critical to the success and sustainability of the project. These include:

  • Gender Equality and Inclusion: We actively promote gender balance in engineering fields, featuring women in science through educational videos and promotional materials.
  • Public Awareness and Education: We engage with the public through open door activities, school visits, and scientific cafés to raise awareness about the benefits and advancements in additive manufacturing.
  • Policy Engagement: Collaborating with policymakers to influence regulations and standards, ensuring that the benefits of AM technologies are widely recognized and supported.
  • Workforce Development: Addressing the shortage of skilled professionals in the AM sector by integrating our research findings into academic curricula and professional training programs.
  • Sustainability Advocacy: Promoting sustainable practices in manufacturing and supporting the transition to a circular economy through our research and outreach efforts.
  • Non-Technical Toolkit: SEAMAC is committed to developing a comprehensive non-technical toolkit. This toolkit includes practical guidelines, case studies, and educational resources designed to assist stakeholders in understanding and adopting AM technologies effectively.

Future Prospects: Looking ahead, SEAMAC is committed to continuous improvement and innovation. We are actively seeking new funding opportunities and expanding our collaborations to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of our project outcomes.

Join us on our journey to revolutionize additive manufacturing and make a lasting impact on industries and society at large.
